Odisha Taza News ( 8 August , Sunday ) Bhubaneswar :- The State Level National Handloom Day is being celebrated throughout the State covering a week long period i.e. from 07th to 15th August-2021. This is an opportunity for each and every citizen for respecting our age old weaving culture & tradition and supporting the weaver artisans, who have carried the legacy from generation to generation with their exceptional skill and creative ability.
Handloom products of our State represent an inseparable art of our rich culture & tradition and act as a source of livelihood for millions of weavers engaged in this activity. The 7 th August has been chosen for its special significance in India’s freedom struggle. On this day of 1905, the Swadeshi Movement was formally launched at a massive meeting in the Calcutta Town Hall.
To commemorate the beginning of Swadeshi Movement in 1905 on 7th August, the day is celebrated as National Handloom Day all over the country with the objective to generate awareness on the importance of Handloom Industry and its contribution to the socio-economic development of the country in general. The Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts Department, Govt. of Odisha is celebrating the State Level National Handloom Day at Boyan Bhawan, Bhubaneswar today i.e. on 07.08.21 at 4.00 PM. Smt.
Padmini Dian, the Hon’ble Minister, Handlooms, Textiles and Handicrafts, Odisha graced the function and inaugurated the celebration in august presence of Smt. Shubha Sarma, IAS Commissioner-cum-Secretary, H.T & H Deptt., Sj. Jyoti Prakash Das, IAS, Director, Textiles & Handloom, Odisha & Managing Director, Boyanika and other dignitaries. With a view to acknowledging the contribution of Odisha Handloom towards socio economic development on this day, the following programmes were organized.
x. Launching / commencement of Signature Campaign
x. Flagging off Branding Mobile Van
x. Unveiling of Quality Dyeing Manual and branding packaging materials for Boyanika.
x. Felicitation to following 3 Primary Weavers Coop. Societies for successful completion of 75 years of Service, each with a memento and cash award of Rs. 1, 00, 000 /- .

2. Aska WCS, Aska, Dist – Ganjam. 3. Kakatapur Thana WCS, Bajapur Dist- Ganjam.
x. Felicitation to following 3 Primary Weavers Coop. Societies for highest sales turn over in last 3 years. 1. Maa WCS, Sagarpalli, Dist- Subarnapur.
1 st Prize – Rs.3.00 Lakh 2. Parameswari WCS, Pipilikani, Dist – Subarnapur.
2 nd Prize – Rs.2.00 Lakh 3. Barapali KostaWCS, Kostapada, Dist – Bargarh.
3 rd Prize – Rs.1.00 Lakh The function will certainly encourage the weavers to keep up their noble profession and inspire the young generation to carry forwarded this legacy.
