Collaborative Initiative Introduces Al-Driven Solutions to Campus and Community, Delivering Proven Results in Reducing Household Food Waste
BHUBANESWAR (Odiha Tazanew) :- Centurion University, a leader in sustainable education and circular economy innovation, today announced a landmark partnership with Australian food-tech platform Saveful. This collaboration marks Saveful’s official entry into the Indian market, positioning Centurion University as the national hub for a behavior-led movement to combat food waste and rising household costs.

Now launching in India, the Saveful app has been adapted to local food habits and everyday needs, with a strong emphasis on affordability, accessibility and practical daily use. The app, which has already helped over 41,000 Australian users save 63% more food than average households, has been localized for the Indian context. By integrating this technology into Centurion’s “Zero Waste Campus” ecosystem, the partnership aims to provide students, faculty, and surrounding communities with a practical tool to turn kitchen leftovers into valuable resources
Centurion University’s “learning by doing” philosophy is the engine behind this launch. With food waste responsible for nine times more greenhouse gas emissions than the global aviation Industry, and the average person in India wasting 55kg of food annually, the collaboration offers a scalable solution to a critical climate and economic challenge.
“Centurion University has always been at the forefront of social responsibility and sustainable Innovation,” says Prof Supriya Pattanayak, Vice-Chancellor, Centurion University Odisha. “By partnering with Saveful, we are giving our community a digital tool that makes ‘doing good’ a part of everyday life.
This is not just an app; it is an extension of our commitment to the circular economy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.” How the Partnership Works Unlike traditional recipe platforms, Saveful works with what users already have in their kitchens. Campus Rollout: Centurion will implement Saveful across its campuses to foster food-saving habits among its student body
Community Integration: The platform will be used as a tool for community development, helping local households slash grocery bills by maximizing their existing food supplies. Measurable Results: Users can track their personal impact and financial savings through a personalized dashboard, creating transparent data for sustainability reporting
We chose Centurion University as our launch partner because of their proven track record in community-led change,” said Kim McDonnell, CEO and Co-Founder of Saveful. “Together, we are solving the dally question of ‘What’s for dinner? while delivering real economic and environmental benefits to Indian households.”
Assistant Prof, Mr. Saneev Kumar Das, Mr. Sandeep Kumar, and team from Centurion University has developed the Savefull App. The India launch marks a major step in Saveful’s global expansion, supported by the academic and technical expertise of Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM) in Odisha.
