Pune (Odisha Tazanews) :- 30 Jun 2025 (Odisha Tazanews)Pune:-> There is good news for the metro commuters in Pune city. Pune Metro will soon add 15 new trains and 45 additional coaches to its fleet. This expansion will make the journey of passengers more convenient and faster, especially during rush hours.Theaters in Pune . This decision has been taken due to the recently approved two new metro lines (Vanaz to Chandni Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi).

The Union Cabinet recently approved the second phase of Pune Metro, which will entail the construction of two elevated lines of 12.75 km in length. Currently, Pune Metro serves 1.7 lakh passengers daily, and with these new trains, the passenger count is expected to increase to 3.5 lakh. Pune Metro currently has 34 trains and 102 coaches in its fleet, which serve 1.7 lakh passengers daily. With the new 15 trains, each with three coaches, a total of 49 trains and 147 coaches will be available.
This expansion will significantly increase the capacity of the metro, which will reduce congestion and save travel time. The new trains will be specially designed for the recently approved second phase of the metro, namely Vanaz to Chandni Chowk (6.1 km) and Ramwadi to Wagholi/Vitthalwadi (6.65 km). There will be 13 new stations on these two elevated lines, connecting major residential and commercial areas like Kothrud, Bavdhan, Kharadi, and Wagholi. The project is estimated to cost Rs 3,626 crore, and is expected to be completed by 2029.

On 25 June 2025, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the second phase of the Pune Metro. This phase is an extension of the existing Vanaz-Ramwadi line, and will boost Pune’s east-west rapid transit. The project will be constructed by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Mahametro), and is expected to be completed in four years. Union Minister of State and Pune MP Muralidhar Mohol gave the go-ahead to the project after holding discussions with Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
The new trains and coaches are being manufactured in Pune itself, and some of these trains will also be sent to Patna Metro, which will also be known as the Pune Metro manufacturing hub. Meanwhile, the expansion of the Pune Metro is part of the city’s comprehensive mobility plan, which will create a continuous east-west metro line from Chandni Chowk to Wagholi. This will reduce traffic congestion on Paud Road and Nagar Road. The new lines will connect IT parks, commercial centres, colleges, and residential areas.

For example, interstate bus services from Mumbai, Satara, Bengaluru and other cities will be connected to the metro at Chandni Chowk, making it easier for passengers to travel within the city. Similarly, bus services coming from Ahmednagar and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar will get connectivity with the metro at Wagholi. This will increase the total metro network of Pune to 80 kilometers, which is important for reducing traffic congestion in the city and promoting eco-friendly transport.
