Utkal Hospital Creates History in Odisha with 3 Successful Cadaveric Liver Transplants in One Month
Bhubaneswar (Odisha Tazanews) :- World Liver Day was observed at Utkal Hospital, located in Niladri Vihar, Bhubaneswar. On this occasion, a mini marathon was organized in the morning to promote awareness about liver health, in which around 300 men and women participated. The theme for this year is “Solid Habits, Strong Liver.”
The marathon was flagged off by the Chief Guest, Shri Akshaya Kumar Sahu, Resident Editor of Asian Age and Deccan Chronicle, along with the Guest of Honour, Dr. Bibhuti Bhushan Nayak, Joint Director of SOTTO. On this occasion, the CEO of Utkal Hospital, Shri B.K. Subodh Singh, along with Dr. Salil Parida, Dr. Ananta Kumar Agasti, Dr. Bijay Mishra, and Dr. Malay Kumar Dhal, were present.
They delivered important messages on health awareness to the participants. In the marathon, Shubham Behera (20 years) from Nayagarh secured first place, Roshan Majhi (19 years) from Kalahandi secured second place, and Dolamani Chirgun (18 years) secured third place. The winners were awarded medals by the Chief Guest Shri Sahu, who also appreciated the efforts of Utkal Hospital and emphasized the importance of health awareness.
In a remarkable achievement, Utkal Hospital successfully performed three cadaveric organ (liver) transplants in March 2026. This is a matter of great pride for Odisha and marks a significant milestone in the state’s healthcare sector. This achievement reflects the growing awareness about organ donation among the people of Odisha. It demonstrates that through collective efforts, many lives can be given new hope and opportunities.
This success was led by Dr. Salil Kumar Parida, a renowned liver transplant surgeon (MS, MCh), along with a highly skilled transplant team at Utkal Hospital. The team includes Dr. Malay Ranjan Dhal (Gastro Surgeon), Dr. Mayur and Dr. Jasmin (Transplant Anaesthesia), and Dr. Sushant Kumar Nayak and Dr. Bhakti (Critical Care Specialists).
Their clinical expertise, advanced technology, and coordinated approach made these complex surgeries successful.
