22 Sept 2023 (Odisha Tazanews) New Delhi :-> Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and under the guidance of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, the 128th Constitutional Amendment Bill related to women’s reservation, known as the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Bill-2023’ was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. It was subsequently passed in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. On this occasion, while responding to the opposition ‘s queries, Shah emphasized that, ‘For some parties, women’s empowerment can be a political agenda or a political issue.
For Modi ji, women’s empowerment is not a political issue but a matter of recognition.’During the discussion on the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Bill’ presented in the new Parliament House on Wednesday, the bill received 454 votes in favour, passing with a two-thirds majority amid extensive debates. Opposition parties had raised significant objections regarding the timeline for implementing women’s reservation. They questioned why the bill couldn’t be implemented before 2029, despite their support. Allegations were made that the government was using women’s reservation as an electoral tactic, as the reservation could not be put into effect before the census and delimitation process.
In response to these allegations, senior BJP leader Amit Shah said, “To maintain transparency in the 33 percent reservation for women, both the census and delimitation processes are crucial. Therefore, the new government formed after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will initiate the census and delimitation processes.” This bill, aligning with Modi ji’s vision of ‘Women-Led Development,’ will enhance women’s participation in decision-making and policy formulation in the country. It marks a significant achievement in the nation’s democratic journey. Ironically, from the Deve Gowda government to the Manmohan Singh government, four previous attempts were made to pass this bill, but it was never successful due to political considerations.
After 27 years, this bill has now been passed in the Lok Sabha under Shah’s guidance. The ‘Nari- Shakti Vandan Act,’providing 33 percent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, received support from most of the parties in the Lok Sabha. Amit Shah, a senior BJP leader, firmly believes that where women serve as public representatives, the benefits of government schemes reach the last person in the country, along with the power of women. Once this bill becomes law, one-third of the seats in Parliament will be reserved for women MPs, marking a significant milestone in the journey towards women’s empowerment.
