Impact in 22 out of 30 districts in the state, including 7Aspirational Districts
Bhubaneshwar (Odiha Tazanews) BBSR :- HDFC Bank, India’s largest private sector bank, through its CSR arm Parivartan, has positively impacted over 38.74 lakh lives in Odishatill date. The Bank has been active in the state since 2017,covering 22 of Odisha’s 30 districts, including 7 Aspirational Districts and 6 Aspirational Blocks.
Under Parivartan, the Bank has adopted six focus areas of :
1. Rural Development
2. Promotion of Education
3. Skill Training &
Livelihood Enhancement
4. Healthcare & Hygiene
5. Financial Literacy & Inclusion
6. Natural Resource Management
In Odisha, Rural Development, Promotion of Education, and Skill Training & Livelihood Enhancement have driven the most significant impact.
CSR Footprint in Odisha
HDFC Bank’s Parivartan programme has built a strong and sustained presence across Odisha, covering 22 of the state’s 30 districts through a mix of ongoing, andcompleted projects.
The Bank has successfully implemented projects in 7Aspirational Districts of Balangir, Dhenaknal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Rayagadain Odisha.
The Bank’s flagship Holistic Rural Development Programme, which focuses on integrated interventions across all 6 focus areas, has impacted 230+ villages in districts including Balangir, Kendrapada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Puri and Rayagada.
Additionally, Focused Development Programmes, where the Bank carries out specific interventions under any one or two of the key focus areas in a targeted geographical area, have been implemented in the districts ofAngul, Bargarh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jagatsignhpur, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khordha, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada,Sambalpur and Sundargarh.

Our work in Odisha reflects this philosophy, from supporting farmers with sustainable agriculture to strengthening education, skilling, and infrastructure. We remain committed to playing a small part in fostering inclusive growth and creating lasting impact at the grassroots level,” said Ms Nusrat Pathan, Head CSR, HDFC Bank.
HDFC Bank was among the top CSR spenders in India for the financial year ended March 2025. As of 31st March 2025, the Bank had spent Rs. 1,068 crore on CSR initiatives nationwide. Under the Parivartan programme, the Bank has impacted over 10.56 crore lives across the country.
KEY INTERVENTIONS IN ODISHA
• Rural Development and Agriculture: Over 73,610 farmers are being trained in eco-friendly practices and introduced to climate resilient crops, while allied activities such as integrated fish farming, backyard poultry, mushroom, vermicomposting, and hi-tech nursery provide alternative incomes.
Five Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) have been formed over the past three years. The Jagatsinghpur FPC, with over 1,500 shareholder farmers, is engaged in the supply of cattle feed and fertilisers, improving access to quality inputs. In Mayurbhanj, an FPC focused on the vegetable value chain has achieved an annual turnover of up to Rs.2 crore, enhancing farm incomes and market linkages.
• Promotion of Education: To bridge learning gaps, more than 120 schools have been enabled with digital classrooms and modern teaching aids, benefitting over 30,000 students. Engagement through children’s collectives and adolescent groups is nurturing youth leadership, life skills and active participation. In addition, 647 scholarships have been awarded to economically disadvantaged students under the ECSS scholarship programme.
• Healthcare & Hygiene: Access to healthcare and basic infrastructure has been strengthened across over 122 villages in rural Odisha. To enable access to clean drinking water, twelve commercial RO plants have been constructed and handed over to self-help groups in Jagatsinghpur, ensuring safe drinking water for 3,000 households across 50 villages. Investments in over 310 sanitation and community infrastructure facilities in schools, anganwadis and villages are contributing to improved public health and wellbeing.
• Livelihood enhancement: Under Parivartan, more than 15,345 individuals have been supported in establishing enterprises that extend beyond local markets. With viability funding, business training and digital marketing support, 593 self-help groups are producing products such as LED bulbs, ragi powder, millet noodles and pasta, sweet potato snacks, pickles, turmeric and chilli powder.
• Project STREE – Women-Led Rural Enterprises: Project STREE focuses on strengthening women-led rural enterprises across four districts of Odisha. The initiative currently supports 20 women-led Farmer Producer Companies, spanning agriculture, allied activities and non-farm enterprises. Over 8,000 women farmers have been trained and certified in mushroom cultivation.
• Skill Development: The Bhubaneswar Bank House-based HDFC Bank Parivartan Skill Development Centre has trained over 9,000 youth till date. The centre has facilitated placements for more than 7,000 young adults across banking, insurance, IT, data management, healthcare and beautician sectors.
• Inclusive Skilling for Persons with Disabilities: A three-month residential skill training programme in Bhubaneswar is training persons with disabilities in IT/ITES, basic computing, English and soft skills, along with foundational exposure to BPO and retail sectors.
• Startup Ecosystem Support: Since 2017, HDFC Bank’s Parivartan Startup Grant has supported entrepreneurial innovation in Odisha, awarding Rs.3.97 crore to key incubators such as KIIT. This has directly benefitted over 19 state-based startups through structured capacity-building programmes, mentorship and ecosystem support .
