Geological Survey of India (GSI), State Unit -Odisha today celebrated the 175th Foundation Day of GSI at its office in Nayapalli

04 March 2025,(Odisha Tazanews) Bhubaneswar  :- GSI, the premier geoscience organization of the country, incepted on 4th March 1851, has entered its 175th year of glorious service to the nation comprising geoscientific discovery, innovation and nation building. Shri S.C. Rath, ex-Director General, GSI graced the event as the Chief Guest.Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rath recollected the monumental contribution of GSI to the nation, and expressed confidence that in the coming years, the modernization being introduced in GSI will bring about a significant change in its work and the outcomes.Later, he also delivered a lecture onthe 175 years of GSI and beyond. Dr.Ramanuj Narayan, Director, IMMT, Bhubaneswar who graced the event as the Guest of Honour, underlined the immense value of the geoscientific data generated by GSI all these years. Shri Pankaj Kumar, Dy. Director General, State Unit-Odisha congratulated the efforts and contribution of the officers of GSI to the national cause.He expressed confidence that collaboration with GSI is going to pay good dividend in the field of mineral processing and beneficiation. Smt. Abhilipsa Das, Sr. Geologist anchored the programme and Dr. Ashit Kumar Swain, Director & Head of Office proposed the vote of thanks . To commemorate this landmark event of the 175th Foundation Day, nationwide celebrations were flagged off on 2nd March with high profile Walkathons organized all over the country with the participation of celebrities and achievers from various fields along with GSI officers and employees.

Yearlong celebration comprising a series of seminars, workshops, lectures, exhibitions, and other activities are also in the offing.The event concluded with a cultural program organized by employees and family membersof GSI.The event was attended by representatives from CGWB, IMMT, the State DGM, and superannuated employees of GSI.
