Jatni (Odisha Taza News) :- Khurda Road Railway Division intensified its Swachhata Hi Seva–2026 campaign through a series of coordinated cleanliness, beautification and public-participation activities conducted from 19th to 24th September 2026 across railway stations, trains, colonies and offices under the Division.

The campaign began on 19th and 20th September with a focused drive for transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and Garbage Vulnerable Points. Intensive cleaning was undertaken at Cuttack, Puri, Jajpur Keonjhar Road , Balugaon and other locations, covering station approaches, tracks, yards, circulating areas, drains and colony boundaries.
At Puri, neglected areas were cleaned and beautified, while cleanliness-themed selfie points were created to encourage passenger participation. Senior officers, health inspectors, railway staff, local citizens, retired employees and community volunteers also participated in the campaign.

On 21st and 22nd September, the Division undertook a major cleaning campaign under the theme “Swachh Stations, Swachh Railgaadi & Clean Public.” Modern cleaning machines were deployed for deep cleaning of platforms, tracks and waiting halls. Toilets, urinals and drains were thoroughly washed and disinfected at stations and railway colonies across the Division. Cleaning staff were provided safety equipment including gloves and masks.
Officers also inspected running express trains, with particular attention to toilet hygiene, seat cleanliness, bedsheets and pantry car food areas. The campaign simultaneously focused on public awareness. Passengers were sensitized on four-stream waste segregation using colour-coded dustbins and the need to avoid single-use plastics.

Railway offices promoted clean-desk practices and the use of reusable water bottles, while drains and garbage-prone areas in colonies were cleared. On 23rd and 24th September, the campaign shifted its focus towards Jan Bhagidari Advocacy on Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, source segregation, composting and “Say No to Plastics.”
Railway teams conducted door-to-door awareness programmes in major colonies, explaining four-way segregation of household waste under the message “Ab Do Nahi Chaar.” Special awareness drives were also conducted at station platforms, stalls and vending areas, encouraging passengers and vendors to replace single-use plastic bags with cloth or jute bags.
A practical demonstration of a plastic bottle crushing machine was conducted at Bhadrak station to educate passengers and vendors on proper disposal of used bottles. Residents and railway health-unit staff were also encouraged to adopt home composting using kitchen wet waste. The six-day campaign was undertaken under the guidance of Sri D Sunil, DRM Khurda, Sri Rajdhari Yadav,
ADRM (Infra) and the EnHM wing of Mechanical Engineering Department headed by Sri Sambid Mohapatra, Sr.DME and Sri Jasbeer Singh, ADME.
