ISPAT NIDAN KENDRA – The Jumbo Covid Treatment Centre of SAIL

Odisha Taza News (1 June, Tuesday ) Bhubaneshwar  :-ISPAT NIDAN KENDRA – The Jumbo Covid Treatment Centre of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant to be inaugurated on 2nd June 2021 Ispat Nidan Kendra- The newly developed state-of-the-art Jumbo COVID Treatment Centre of SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) will be inaugurated by Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble Minister of PNG & Steel, Government of India through virtual mode on 2nd June, 2021 at 4 PM. Many eminent personalities from Ministry of Steel, Govt of India, Govt of Odisha, SAIL Board, District Administration and Rourkela Steel Plant will be attending the function both in physical as well as virtual mode.

It is worth mentioning here that the new facility has been developed as per the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi to establish jumbo hospitals with oxygenated beds near Oxygen producing units. Under the guidance of Hon’ble PNG & Steel Minister, SAIL RSP started the job of establishing a jumbo hospital at the erstwhile Administrative Building of Fertilizer Plant of RSP. Seeing the urgency of the situation the employees from various departments of RSP worked round the clock in spite of the COVID pandemic and established the massive facility in a period of less than a month.

The Jumbo hospital will draw oxygen directly from the oxygen unit of M/s Linde, the BOO (Build, Own & Operate) Plant of RSP, which is adjacent to the hospital. Gaseous Oxygen will be supplied to every bed of the hospital through dedicated pipeline. The facility will be helpful in providing treatment to COVID positive patients requiring hospitalisation and also reduce the load on the other COVID hospitals. At present the hospital has 100 oxygenated beds including 50 ICU beds attached with ventilators which will be subsequently increased to 500 beds including 100 ventilator attached ICU beds.

Notably, the two storied building with a sprawling 42,000 square feet area, has a tremendous potential to serve the growing health care needs of Rourkela even after the COVID pandemic is over. Besides, the hospital which will be managed by the District Administration, will also fulfil the health care need of the people residing in Southern Rourkela and nearby areas, where no such hospital with this size of operation is there.
