Pattamundai (Odisha Tazanews) Bhubaneswar :- Hectic Preparations are underway in Pattamundai for the eightieth Birthday Celebration of Renowned Social Activist Baraha Charan Samal. Popularly known as Kanhu Babu Shri Samal was born on 17th June 1946 at Mandapada village of Pattamundai Block in Kendrapada district of Odisha. Hundreds of Samal family’s friends, relatives and wellwishers are expected to gather at the celebration venue ‘ SAMAL BHAVAN ‘, Kanhu Babu’s ancestral home at Mandapada during the solemn occasion on 17th June 2026 at 7 PM evening onwards.
Being a dedicated and devoted philanthropist, Kanhu Babu has been playing an active role for the wellbeing of marginalized and suffering human beings of this locality. He has also tremendously contributed for the establishment and upbringing of number of Charitable organisations, spiritual associations and educational institutions in Pattamundai, Ali and Rajnagar blocks. Shri Samal has been the Founder Member of Kasana Anta Panchayat High School and Bhajaneswar high School of Mandapada .
Being the President of Mandapada village committee, Chief Adviser of Shri Abhiram Ashram at Malapatana in Ali and Adviser of Sarojini Samal Smruti Sansad, Kanhu Babu has been rendering yeomen services for the betterment of the social fabric in his native area.Recognizing his outstanding contributions for the promotion of education, Kanhu Babu was felicitated by Odisha Secondary Teachers’ Association in the year 2023. A man of many parts, Kanhu Babu is a wellknown personality having qualities of being religious, spiritual, kind hearted, helpful, affable, punctual, hardworking, righteous, responsible, disciplined, dependable, honest and hospitable at a stretch.
Baraha Charan Samal’s parents were late lamented Bhagaban Samal and late Raseswari Samal. Shri Samal got married to late Sarojini Samal of Sahoo Sahi of Mandapada village.Shri Samal has five daughters like Sarmishtha Samal, Rupashri Samal, Samarpita Samal, Shradhanjali Samal, Lopamudra Samal and one Son Sangram Samal. Being inspired and motivated by his illustrious father a Delhi based young entrepreneur, Sangram Samal has been earning accolades for his spectacular social services. Sangram is currently serving as the Joint General Secretary of World Odisha Society’s New Delhi and National Capital region branch.
