Gas shortage in domestic cylinders! Legal Metrology Department takes drastic action

Penal action against distributors in Koregaon Park and Vanaj areas

Pune (Odisha Tazanews) Pune :-> Following complaints of low weight gas being supplied in domestic gas cylinders in the city, the Department of Valid Metrology is conducting a surprise inspection campaign in Pune city and district. In this campaign, a discrepancy of 14.2 kg was found in the domestic gas cylinders distributed in Koregaon Park and Kothrud-Vanaj areas from the standard weight. Joint Controller Vilas Pawar informed that punitive action has been taken against the concerned distributors.

Pawar said, “A large number of complaints were received in the city and district regarding the low weight of gas cylinders. Accordingly, a surprise inspection campaign was undertaken. Some distributors in Koregaon Park and Kothrud areas found less gas in their cylinders. Penal action is being taken against the concerned and this campaign will continue.” This action was taken by Inspectors Sudarshan Bansode, Dinesh Somnathe, Dhanashree Telang and Ajay Jogdand under the guidance of Deputy Controller D. G. Mahajan and Jyoti Patil.

Weighing machine in the cupboard!

Many distributors in the city have complained that cylinders are being distributed directly to customers without weighing them due to insufficient manpower, the goal of distributing cylinders on a large scale, and work pressure. It has been reported that many distributors have kept the weighing scales in the office in the cupboard, and some have not even checked and stamped the weighing machines for years.

Since the home delivery staff also do not have weighing machines, customers cannot check the exact weight of the gas in the cylinder. It has been seen that many customers are not even aware that they have the right to have the cylinder weighed.

What should customers take care of ?

Joint Controller Vilas Pawar appealed, “While accepting the cooking gas cylinder, make sure that its seal is in order. Before accepting the cylinder, the weight should be checked on the available weighing machine. The weight of the empty cylinder and the net weight of the gas are indicated on the cylinder. The weight on the receipt should be verified.”

Warning of legal action

According to the Legal Metrology Act, if weighing instruments are not regularly inspected and stamped, a case can be filed against the concerned. Also, if the distributor does not have a weighing machine available, there is a provision of a fine of up to five thousand rupees.
