Home Science PG Students Explore Textile Heritage and Nutritional Research in Hyderabad

Berhampur (Odiha Tazanew) :- The PG Department of Home Science, Berhampur University organized an educational Study Tour to Hyderabad from 16th February to 21st February 2026 with the objective of providing practical exposure and experiential learning to the students.

The tour was conducted under the able leadership and motivation of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Geetanjali Dash and Chairman, P.G. Council, Prof. Sukanta Kumar Tripathy. A total of 33 students of P.G. Part–II participated in the tour, accompanied by two teacher guides, Mrs. Alita Minz and Ms. Ashmita Beura.

During the tour, the students visited Bhoodan Pochampally, famously known for its exquisite Ikat weaving. The visit offered valuable insights into traditional handloom techniques, rural entrepreneurship,

and the socio-economic aspects of textile production. Students interacted with local artisans and observed the intricate tie-and-dye process involved in creating Pochampally Ikat fabrics.

The team also visited the ICMR–National Institute of Nutrition, a premier research institute under the Indian Council of Medical Research. The students gained in-depth knowledge about nutritional research, dietary guidelines, public health initiatives, and laboratory practices.

The exposure enriched their understanding of community nutrition and research methodologies. The study tour proved to be an academically enriching and memorable experience, blending cultural exploration with scientific learning, and significantly enhancing the practical knowledge of the students.
