The Post Graduate Department of Home Science, Berhampur University, successfully organized a two-day intensive workshop titled “Saura Art: Indigenous Expressions of Odisha” in the Department of
Berhampur (Odiha Tazanew) :- Home Science on dt. 10th and 11th february 2026. The event, held in collaboration with Tata Srujanika, focused on the traditional iconography and cultural significance of the Saura tribal community. The workshop was initiated under the visionary guidance of the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof.
Geetanjali Dash, whose administration has been pivotal in integrating indigenous knowledge into the academic curriculum. The program also received significant logistical and academic support from the Chairman of the P.G. Council, Prof. Sukanta Ku. Tripathy.
The primary objective of the workshop was to provide students with a deep dive into the “Idital” (traditional mural art form). Under the leadership of Mrs. Alita Minz, Coordinator and Convenor, along with Organizing Secretaries Miss Ashmita Beura and Mrs Manasee Meher, the department transformed into a creative hub where students moved beyond textbooks to practice ancient brushwork techniques.
The entire cohort of 1st-year and 2nd-year P.G. students participated, gaining hands-on experience in creating Saura motifs. Shri Dinabandhu Soren, an Expert Trainer of Saura Art, was appointed to impart training to the students. The event concluded with a gallery showcase where student-created pieces were displayed, earning praise from faculty and university officials alike for their precision and creativity.
