30th Dec, 2024 (Odisha Tazanews) Pune :-> Citizens are alleging that the city is playing with the health of citizens by creating an artificial water shortage. Thousands of tankers of water are being supplied every day due to the arbitrariness of the tanker lobby. However, is this water suitable for drinking? Where is it filled? What is its source? The municipal administration does not have any information about this .
Tanker business booms due to water shortage
Although 22 TMC of water is provided to Pune city every year from Khadakwasla Dam, in many areas, water supply is inadequate and low pressure, so citizens have to depend on tankers. Since there is no water supply system in the 32 newly incorporated villages, including the old city areas, the tanker business is booming.
Construction permits and fraud on citizens
With the permission of PMRDA, construction has gained momentum in these villages. However, the decision was taken in July not to grant permission without a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Municipal Corporation regarding water supply. However, this decision was withdrawn within a month. Builders sell flats promising tanker water. However, after the construction is completed, the residents are forced to make their own arrangements for tankers. As a result, citizens have to bear the cost of lakhs of rupees per month.
